The PS5 “can’t find it” problem, solved
PS Store search often surfaces only the paid pre-order page, which is why “onimusha demo ps5 where to find” became one of the most-searched phrases about this game. Two reliable routes: open the main game’s store page and press the three-dot menu to the right of the wishlist button — the demo download lives there — or scroll the same page’s edition list, where the demo appears as a free entry. The direct store link is in the Sources list below. We found no region locks: US and Hong Kong storefronts both carry it.
What’s inside the demo
The slice covers roughly 30 minutes of early story: the Kiyomizu-dera temple approach, tutorials for Parry, Deflect, Issen, Oni Armaments and soul absorption, and a full boss duel against Sasaki Ganryu — the rival swordsman better known to history as Kojiro. Among Oni Armaments, the demo showcases the Two Celestials twin blades. It is the best Issen training ground available before launch, which is exactly how we use it in our practice drills.
Progress does not carry over to the full game — but the save file matters anyway. Keep it, and the full game grants the Charm: Kubi Akari, which Capcom describes as giving Musashi “a beneficial effect” (exact numbers unannounced). At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Capcom also announced the demo is being expanded with a new location and a new duel ⚠ live-blog reports, details pending — we will update this page when the updated build is out.
Known issues and fixes
Capcom runs an official known-issues thread on Steam and a troubleshooting article; the recurring items, mostly on PC:
- LT/RT not absorbing souls on some controllers (Steam Deck, 8BitDo, some Xbox pads) — adjusting Steam Input mappings often fixes it.
- Forced depth-of-field with no toggle, and no FOV or camera-distance slider — motion-sensitivity complaints cluster here.
- Crashes or refusal to launch: Capcom’s official advice is to delete the shader cache, disable compatibility mode, whitelist the game in antivirus/firewall, install the DirectX End-User Runtime, and update to NVIDIA 591.86+ / AMD 26.3.1+ drivers.
- Cosmetic: Steam Deck shows wrong VRAM, and a few RTX 50-series cards report DLSS unavailable.
Capcom notes demo performance “does not fully reflect the final product” — the free benchmark tool is the better performance predictor.
The “too easy” story
The demo cleared a million downloads in its first weeks, and the loudest feedback was that regular enemies barely fight back. Producer Akihito Kadowaki answered directly: the demo is an early-game slice that deliberately pre-unlocks some late-game skills, and “in the final game, the bosses and the regular Genma will put up a tougher fight.” The full release also adds finer difficulty options on top of the Story and Action modes — the details live on our difficulty page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the demo on Switch 2?
Not yet. Capcom’s official account says a Switch 2 demo is “scheduled to be released at a later date.” As of late August it has not appeared; the demo is currently PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic only.
Does demo progress carry over to the full game?
No — progress does not carry over. But keeping your demo save data unlocks the Kubi Akari charm in the full game, so don’t delete it.
How long is the demo?
About 30 minutes of early story on a first run: the Kiyomizu-dera stage, tutorials for Parry, Deflect, Issen and soul absorption, and the Sasaki Ganryu boss fight. Replaying to practice the boss can stretch it much longer.
Is the demo really that easy?
The regular enemies are — by design, and the producer has said the demo front-loads some late-game skills. He also promised bosses and regular Genma “will put up a tougher fight” in the full game, and the release adds finer difficulty options.
